Day Job

PHEW!!! What would the school systems do without parents? I mean REALLY? I'm not sure they could function. At our school, room moms take care of every single party. The Teachers are HANDS OFF!!! They instruct the parents but it's the parents who make it all come together. School Fundraiser- ALL PARENTS!! School play, ALL PARENTS!! (Except for the director) Costumes, set, publicity-all parents!!! Library DUTY-PARENTS. When my kids attended St. Mary's they had lunch duty. Again, it was parents who monitored the kids while the teachers enjoyed their lunch.
I already spend a fortune to send my kids to school. Imagine if the parents didn't help how much more I'd spend. I have friends whose children go to public schools and they too are constantly helping at the school. Anyway.... my reason for this post is because I wanted to share with you how hard I've been working the last few weeks on COSTUMES. Rachel is Baloo in the Jungle Book play next weekend and since I worked on costumes last year, I inherited this job title again. The pictures above are works in progress of an elephant and a monkey. Nine children are elephants and monkeys so I"ve been busying cutting out tummies, ears and pinning tails on the back of pants. I'm exhausted and have so much more work to do. Yesterday we had a dress rehearsal and with it came costume malfunctions. So either today or this weekend, I've got to add elastic to hats, trim to pants, and figure out how to add elephant ears to a helmet and headband. I can't finish this post in good faith and not mention Gina and Patty who have also helped. Thank heavens that Gina knows how to sew. Patty can stitch and I know how to use a hot glue gun!!!

hats off to you Julie. I agree about parents in the schools - don't know what they would do without us. I luckily have had the excuse of a small child or a baby at home the past 4 years but still they get 'cha! Can't wait to see the finished costumes!
